Watch Hill Rhode Island is a coastal village situated on a peninsula jutting into Block Island Sound. It is located midway between New York City and Boston. Watch Hill includes the westernmost point in the state known as Napatree Point. Together they have formed Little Narragansett Bay which has made Watch Hill a popular harbor around which a business district has grown. Watch Hill is a secluded and seasonal resort community with shopping, a golf and beach club, yacht club and public and private beaches.
Once occupied by Niantic Indians in the 1600s, European colonists used the area as an important lookout point during the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War, hence the community’s name. Watch Hill is probably most noted for its grand mansions, but other landmarks in town include the Watch Hill Lighthouse the first of which was built in 1745, and the The Flying Horse Carousel, the oldest continuously-operated carousel in the United States and a National Historic Landmark.
Watch Hill is known for its beaches, history, bird-watching, fishing, and magnificent sunsets. The Watch Hill waterfront was once lined with huge Victorian hotels. Fire and hurricanes destroyed almost all during the 1900s. The two remaining hotels The Ocean House and the Watch Hill Inn went through huge changes during the 2000s.

Watch Hill Light House

Watch Hill is one of the oldest lighthouse sites in America and to this day, it remains an active aid to navigation. The Watch Hill Lighthouse has served as a nautical beacon for ships since 1745. The Watch Hill Lighthouse Keepers Association now maintains the Keeper's house.There is a museum at the lighthouse that is open in July and August.

Napatree Point- Half-mile beach separates Watch Hill's Little Narragansett bay from the ocean. Favorite spot for hikers and bird watchers. Provides year-round habitat for a variety of species.

East Beach - A popular beach in Watch Hill, is both spacious and clean attracting most of the regular sunbathers and swimmers.

Misquamicut State Beach- Half mile of state beach with clean, clear water with low surf zone. There is parking for 2,100 cars at state facility. Large new pavilion, shade structures, coin operated hot showers, cold showers, changing rooms, First-Aid, concessions, restrooms.

Watch Hill Beach- Family beach, amusements, kiddy rides, snack bars, antique 1915 carousel, batting cages, bumper boats, go-karts, miniature golf, game room, water slides, gift shop, beachware, ocean view cocktail lounge.

Watch Hill Fishing

The water surrounding Watch Hill, Rhode Island is one of the best fishing spots on the entire Atlantic coast. The water teams with fish in a variety of species, including Fluke, Striped Bass, Bluefish, Bonito, Tuna, Tautog, and Sea Bass.
